Grunge 2.0

Photo from "Grunge" by Michael Lavine.

Does anyone remember the movie Mad Love? Drew Barrymore played a misunderstood loner type who loved L7 and had a kick ass wardrobe(or at least I thought so when I was 15). That character was who I wanted to be for a while, minus the bipolar disorder of course. She pulled off the look so well, floral baby doll dresses with docs, and thermals and plaids. This my friends was grunge. I hold the fondest memories of these times. Clayton and I find ourselves reminiscing about 1994 A LOT! As if we were two hippies who couldn't let go of Woodstock. Never the less, I am pretty happy to relive 90's fashion trends. Here's a little grunge inspired summer o-fit.

Cherry Bomb

Last night I saw The Runaways, and today I woke up felling like I wish I had an 80's rock chick mullet and a pair of platforms. Before I saw the movie, platforms had been cropping up here and there, and I had developed an interest. Needless to say, I am now obsessed. I have a few pairs, now I just need to wear them! Here are some rad platforms courtesy of Etsy.

Letters From the Editor

Today I took a look around and noticed how letter happy I have been lately. Over the weekend Liz and I had a day on the town, and we visited our local Anthropolgie (for the first time). Between drooling over everything in the store, I picked up a couple of goodies. One of the items I picked up was this beautiful "A" mug. It is my new favourite. Subsequently I have been drinking a lot more tea just so I can use it!

Once I looked beyond my mug, I noticed how large my letter collection was getting. I have been collecting various letters from flea markets and thrift stores, and just recently hung then on my office wall. I love the look and will be keeping my eye out for more letters!

Double Denim

I recently bought a jean jacket. I love jean jackets, and I hate jean jackets. I love them, cause when done right it is the ultimate laid back casual and put together look. I hate them because being such a jean freak, I feel limited as to what I can wear with a jean jacket. Heaven forbid I pair jeans with a jean jacket... ICK!

I have always considered double denim a fashion faux pas.... BUT, there are always exceptions to these fashion faux pas. Especially if you don't fallow the rules, which is ultimately what I aspire to do because let's face it--That's fashion. This, however is not one rule I'm willing to break in order to be fashionably liberated. I'm not about to suite up in head to toe denim, but I guess it's always an option if I hit my head and begin living my life like mid nineties Zack Morris.

No Sweat....Hardly

Does anyone else have a problem with this? Work out clothes! Lately I have been struggling with finding the perfect balance between feeling comfortable and looking decent at the gym. So far I have been focusing on the latter. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable when your exercising. I guess my question is how or where do you find the perfect work out look for your body shape? Active wear is so often tight and can be rather unflattering if you don't pair it with the right pieces.

One thing that I have noticed is that when I feel confident in what I'm wearing at the gym I seem to want to exercise more... maybe that's just the fashion bug in me, but I get discouraged when I don't feel put together. So I am setting off on a quest to find the perfect work out look, and buying that look in triplicate so I don't have to fret every time I step out of the locker room.

I cam across this site Lucy Active wear There are some great looks on here, and pieces that could potentially hide some trouble spots. Here are some samples.

This is a great jacket, because it hides a tummy. Perfect for a boot camp in the park or just to cover up at the gym.

I like the cut on these walking shorts. You don't have to worry about pant length with your running shoes. Nothing worse than flood pants. I'm a short gal, so pants are usually too long and end up dragging.

Another pant option. I like these because they are a bit loose. If you don't like the skin tight look, these seem to be a perfect in-between

If Rachel Zoe were here she'd DIE, and then raise from the dead and say Bananas

Came across etsy seller Allen Company Inc.. I want everything! This store is packed with cute shorts, shoes, boots, bags, and pins. Everything in the shop is relevant, and represents a cohesive collection of items you could mix and match.

That’s a Wrap

Last night’s Broken Arts Fair was a great time.  It was nice to have artists in the community get together and meet each other and share in their talents.  I met a lot of cool people and got some really great stuff and sold a few things to boot!
